چکیده

The soil surface roughness is one of the most susceptible to variation in time and space characteristic, and depends on many variables like cultivation practices or soil aggregation. Various indices are used for its quantification, in microscale soil roughness is commonly expressed by HSD calculated from DEM of small sample area. The source of DEM can be close range photogramethry or laser scanning. However, for the scale of whole field that approach gives unclear separation, and new approach, based on geomorphons gives better results.

Decomposing Dual Scale Soil Surface Roughness for Microwave Remote Sensing Applications

Soil surface roughness, as investigated in this study, is decomposed in a dual scale process. Therefore, we investigated photogrammetrically acquired roughness information over different agricultural fields in the size of 6–22 m and decomposed them into a dual scale process by using geostatistical techniques. For the characterization of soil surface roughness, we calculated two different roughn...

Digital Close Range Photogrammetry for Measurement of Soil Erosion

Many of the processes involved in soil erosion have dimensions on the millimetre scale. Modelling and quantification of such processes require information on soil surface topography with adequate resolution. The purpose of this study was to generate digital elevation models (DEMs) from soil surfaces with high spatial and temporal resolution. Digital photogrammetry was applied for measuring eros...

Assessment of Dem Quality for Characterizing Surface Roughness Using Close Range Digital Photogrammetry

This paper presents a procedure for assessing the quality of a digital elevation model (DEM) which has been applied to the output of a normalized cross correlation based stereomatching algorithm. Using semimetric photography of natural gravel river bed surfaces acquired in the field, digital photogrammetry was used to extract DEMs automatically for use in characterizing surface roughness proper...

Using geographically weighted regression for analysing elevation error of detailed digital elevation models

This case study concerns vertical errors of five different high-resolution digital elevation models (DEMs) originated from light detection and ranging (LiDAR), interferometric SAR (InSAR) and photogrammetric acquisition. The LiDAR DEM derived from last return points was considered as the reference DEM. The aim was to analyse the statistical and spatial distribution of the residuals and their re...

Digital Surface Models for the estimation of hydraulic properties of soils

Various applications such as meteorology, climatology or hydrology require information about the soil hydraulic properties over large areas. Microwave radiometry is a promising approach to gather this type of information. The microwave emission from soils is strongly affected by the roughness of the soil surface. This effect has therefore to be quantified to get a reasonable estimation of the h...
